Once again ‘Derby Book Festival’ has brought together and galvanised the city with a spirit of collaboration unique to Derby. The festival’s success is intrinsic on its indispensable partnerships with ‘Marketing Derby Bondholders’, as well as key cultural and educational pillars such as the University of Derby, Derby College and QUAD. This year’s festival is the culmination of hours of passion and enthusiasm ensuring Derby’s much deserved place on the cultural map.

For our Creative Director, Chris Redshaw, Derby Book Festival is a cause very close to his heart. Having led and developed the branding for the festival’s inaugural year Chris bought the project home to WDA; it was a new and rewarding challenge and are proud to be brand ambassadors, as well as one of the official media partners of Derby Book Festival.

We have built on the beloved identity, creating a new platform of branded communications, working alongside Codemakers who have developed the website and Status Social who ran this year’s social media campaign. In addition to the billboards, adverts and flyers we were especially proud of this year’s programme, which you will have seen popping up around the city, boasting an even larger spectacle of events, talks and readings, (with nearly 3,000 tickets sold last year thats no small task).

Working with the organisation, we have leveraged Derby’s love of the written word. This year really is offering ‘something for everyone’: a more inclusive festival with a greater focused calendar of kid’s events to inspire a new generation and a diverse community reach celebrating the universal power of culture and literature. The festival has captured everyone’s imagination encouraging an exceptional atmosphere of participation, with our Designer Tom Birch joining this year’s winners of the ‘Flash Fiction’ award providing further proof of how eager we all are to get involved. Derby Book Festival has cemented itself as a local institution in its own right.

“One thing is certain, everything you have done is spot on, highly professional and makes Derby Book Festival look amazing!” Sian Hoyle – Derby Book Festival

The festival runs June 3rd to 11th, be sure to check the programme of events if you’re not already attending.

Status Social are an award-winning agency who have long established themselves at the forefront of professional and innovative social media strategy.

They came to us to discuss the launch of an exclusive bespoke new service and needed to find a new voice in a new market. ‘Social Media Weddings’ is the first of its kind in the UK, a pioneering service that creates an engaging atmosphere capturing the moment and preserving memories of ‘the perfect day’.

We initially established that Social Media Weddings is a premium service, but much more importantly, it is a personal exclusive experience ensuring that the wedding is truly memorable. Social Media Weddings needed to be a brand in its own right, which is supported by Status Social’s reputation of expertise and experience. Status Social proved to be the ideal client for WDA’s ’Brand Box’; a product that works by creating a distinctive bespoke identity, turning businesses into brands – essentially a ‘brand in box’

The team here at WDA were able to identity a clear demographic, a market, and a style which would invest people with the brand. The positioning platform ‘Share Your Story’ focuses on what is at the heart of social media: the opportunity to express your individuality, your moment, your story on what is for many one of the most important days of our lives.  Graphically, the brand is an elegant marriage of tradition and contemporary design; the refined logo and accompanying iconography would be aptly situated alongside any high fashion or jewellery brand. We have created a platform that compliments the digital nature of social media yet with its eye fixed on classical sophistication.
